APRIL 2016


Gabriele Dillmann, Associate Professor of German, and Carmen Taleghani-Nikazm, Associate Professor of German at OSU, received a Five Colleges of Ohio Language Enrichment and Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Mellon Grant, January 2015 – December 2017.  The grant is titled: Innovative Pedagogy and Research: A Collaborative Ohio 5/OSU Language Enrichment Project in Action. The grant supports a joint pedagogy and research project between faculty members from Denison  and Ohio State during the spring semester of 2016 and beyond.

Pedagogical Practice Projects (PPP) is a faculty development initiative supported by Denison’s CLT.  This program offers continuing full-time faculty an opportunity to design, implement, and evaluate a new innovative pedagogy for a course that will be taught in 2016-2017. These projects will generate pedagogical innovations and significant teaching changes that deepen student learning and skills, enhance teaching effectiveness, and create alternative teaching or curricular approaches that contribute to Denison’s mission.

South African STEM Educator Residency

From April 9-16, Denison will host the founder of the Maths and Sciences Leadership Academy of Kimberley South Africa, Anne Maclean, and her two colleagues, Martie Venter, MSLA Academic Coordinator and Mandisa Lebitso, Math Coordinator and Teacher Training, Pioneers Program.

Anne Maclean and her colleagues will spend the week at Denison visiting classes, engaging with faculty, and the community.

Hanada Al Masri, Assistant Professor of Modern Languages, presented a paper at the first international conference on Arabic Language in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in March 2016. The conference theme was “The Teaching of Arabic Language at Institutions of Higher Education: Realities and Aspirations.”  Her paper discussed the the integrated approach in teaching Arabic for non-native speakers and demonstrated its effective results in enhancing oral proficiency through the use of technology.

Cody Brooks, Associate Professor of Psychology & Lindsay Rand, ’15 presented their research  “Spontaneous Recovery After Brief or Extended Cued Extinction in Rats research”  at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in New York, New York on March 4, 2016.

Jordan Fantini, Associate Professor of Chemistry, along with three students, traveled to the 2016 Spring National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in  San Diego, held from March 13 to 17.
