On Wednesday, October 5, the Language and Culture Program at Preston opened its doors to Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Sextet, who shared their experiences crossing borders between the USA and Perú through music. They played some pieces and had a rich dialogue with students. Some of the attendees were happy to take their picture with the musicians.
Spanish 330 –Cultures of Spain– students and members of the Spanish Cluster at the Language House spent several hours together on Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2014, enjoying a Flamenco Workshop and a Tapas Sampling.
Flamenco Workshop – Students learned basic steps of Sevillanas. Students learned “palmeo” and “pasos”. Students practiced “zapateados”.
Tapas Degustation – Students from the Spanish cluster at the Language House prepared “empanadas de pollo, de queso and de ternera”; they made “patatas bravas with aioli” and “bocatas de atún”. Other tapas of “chorizo”, “queso de Mahón, queso curado Manchego, queso de cabra” and “pollo en pepitoria” were enjoyed and accompanied by a variety of juices: “piña, guava, tamarindo and durazno”.
