A number of Denison’s early alumnae have contributed to their communities, both in the United States and abroad.  One such woman was Lorena Woodrow, a 1906 graduate.  As Mrs. Burke, she was the first woman on the university’s board of trustees, and she became a Denison benefactor, establishing funds for the Lorena Woodrow Burke Chair of English.  Through her church in New York, she actively supported the African hospital work of Dr.
