No Impact week has definitely forced me into some new, positive habits that I will carry over past this designated time. Something that really surprised me was how lazy I was in the past not wanting to do small things because they may be a little but inconvenient. I still find myself getting annoyed when I remember that I need to simply reach down and unplug my charger once my phone or computer is done charging but I am trying to fix that mentality.
We don’t have much control over our food intake living on a college campus. I eat at the dining hall about twice a day, and also go to Slayter to buy food there. The only options we really have are to make sure we use the opportunities to compost when we are able to, and throw away our wastes in the correct places, as well as try not to buy packaged foods.
The water situation is going about the same for me… I’m still trying to cut down on my shower time and keep up the habits of turning off the water in the sink when I am not directly using it. It seems to be getting easier as time goes on because I don’t have to force myself to remember as often, its becoming more of a second nature which is exactly what I was hoping would happen.
My first day of reduced water consumption was difficult and eye opening to how much I can actually change in my everyday life. I noticed that I have the bad habit of leaving the water on in the sink when I am brushing my teeth as well as washing my face and washing my hands. This morning and tonight I made sure that I turned off the water when brushing my teeth.
