Today was a good day, a Friday for learning and giving. Today after class I had a great meeting with the person in charge of Bon Appetite’s sustainability, Piper Fernway. She talked to Julia, Rachel, and I about the Denison dining halls goals and plans. She also answered a lot of our questions and was very involved in helping us.
Thursdays are my days for ho hum, no question. After discussing ho hum and what it means from Beavans perspective I really appreciate it so much more. Allowing yourself to reflect on your tasks without stressing out about them is an amazing way to gather your thoughts and create an organized plan. It is not only important for efficiency but also sustaining mental health.
I am satisfied with the sustainable routine I have started. Today I made a goal to clean out the locker room and recycle all recyclable items. I found a good amount of paper cups and far too many pieces of paper that seem untouched. I had to do some digging in the trash but I felt good about what I was doing.
The journey to being a vegetarian for a week is off to a poor start (pt. 2). At lunch today I did well avoiding meat, but I went for fish. I could definitely see myself taking the route to being a pescatarian but I know that’s close to impossible while at school and not very sustainable while living in the middle of Ohio.
Overall I had a successful day on becoming the next coming of “No Impact Man”. I avoided all meat in the dining halls but unfortunately was forced to eat a chicken sandwich from Elms at a basketball meeting after practice, bummer. I got dressed in the dark this morning and haven’t charged my phone all day.
