Today my roommates friend came and I told him all about this project and I inspired him to put his fruit in our community compost. I felt like I did better with conserving energy, however I used another K-cup to make coffee this morning. Although this was not intentional, I conserved water during my shower because the showers in Shorney were not working well.
Today was definitely not my best day. My friend recently gave me his Keurig coffee machine because he wasn’t using his and I can’t really stand the coffee here at Denison. I thought about skipping out on my coffee because of the small, packaged K-cups that are required to make a cup. All of which is to say, I caved in and made myself coffee, which was just a bad start.
Today has gone okay. I have been using my mini compost a lot, my roommate saved her orange peels and put them in as well which was good. I haven’t eaten any meat either, which isn’t as hard as I thought. Looking at my food choices, I don’t think that meat has really been a big part of my diet at all since I’ve gotten here.
Today was a little better for me, other than forgetting to compost my orange peel this morning. I was really conscious of my energy use and I used natural light in my room so I wasn’t using any light energy. I also decided to make my own little compost in my room. I took a to-go box that was in my recycling bin and I put my apple core and orange peel in there.
The first day of No Impact week was a little rough for me. In terms of food, I did pretty well. I ate foods that weren’t packaged and I composted the other food I ate. However, I did not go grocery shopping prior to this week, so getting to the market involved a little bit of gas and my food was put in paper bags.
