A beautiful, sunny Thursday made natural light the easy choice. I did use my laptop most of the day to catch up on my long list of Geo assignments so my energy consumption was focused on my use of a laptop charger… Over the course of the day, I had tied my record for the amount of times I had to shut-off the lights in the Good Hall Common Room at 4 times in one day.
A little late on this post, but better late than never! On Wednesday, I made a point to bring my own 100%post consumer product, BPA free, American Made tupperware container to Slayter for breakfast in the morning! Although I received a weird look at first, the Slayter dining staff knows me pretty well so accommodating my “special request”—to put my breakfast burrito into the container instead of the single-use tin foil—wasn’t much of a hassle.
I’d say day two has been relatively successful. No shower, lots of time outside, and using the bathroom with the door open allowed for natural light to flow and kept my energy output low. I did, however use the stove to cook up a meal, but I will do my best for the remainder of the week in trying to take advantage of pre-made food that I can access and use my own container to store, as well as eating my eggs raw if need be:).
Today, in my first day of a championship performance for “No Impact Week 2k17” I showered with lukewarm-cold water for 3.5 minutes with out any lights on. My means were food items I had purchased over the weekend and microwaved in a re-usable, BPA free, American Made container. I did, however use my laptop which needed to be plugged into the wall to charge, but once charged I took my work outside to use the natural light that the beautiful day provided us.
