Here on the last day of our classes no impact week I am left with many mixed emotions. Included in these are feelings of hope, anger, happiness, and fear. I am left with hope because hoping for a better world and influential change is something that must never be lost if we are to change peoples behavior.
As we reach the 5th day of zero impact week, the challenge of reducing my impact on the environment is beginning to get a little easier. These past two days reducing impact being from our food and transportation has been easy to integrate into the day. Once the larger areas of consumption are dealt with and becoming almost a regular routine, adding zero food and transportation waste was a breeze.
Reducing my personal amount of waste in my opinion has been the easiest out of all the resources. For the most part I am able to get by on the items that I already own, or that Denison provides for me. Most of the trash that I produce comes from food packaging that I buy either in the dorm, slayter, or out at a restaurant.
In order to try and reduce my water consumption for the upcoming week I first had to consider where in my life I used the greatest amount of water. It only took a little reflection for me to realize my greatest water consumption by far was coming from showering. I shower every morning and sometimes just stay in an extra couple minutes for the warm water.
