Happy Earth Day everyone! I think my last day of No Impact went well, except for the “No Waste” dinner in Slayter tonight. The food wasn’t bad, but I think the concept could use some work. The meal was supposed to be utensil-free, which worked for the majority of the foods, but not the quinoa salad I got.
Over halfway done with No Impact Week! Although I’m still slipping up here and there, I’ve become more conscious of my impact. For instance, I used a plastic fork today in Slayter (which I then washed and plan to reuse), but as I was picking it up I thought about it. I realized that I was making waste with that fork, waste that I could’ve prevented had I brought silverware.
My week has been very atypical regarding my car usage. On Monday, I carpooled to the Bio Reserve. Then on Tuesday, I had my only mid-week track meet of the year. And today is my formal, so I’ll be taking a bus to that as well. Usually, I don’t use a car at all during the week and only use a vehicle when our bus travels to track meets every Saturday.
Today I went to class for an hour and 20 minutes, then spent the rest of the day outdoors because I was at a track meet. However, my meet was at Wooster which is a two hour drive away. That used a lot of gas, but I think that spending 6 hours outside without using electricity evened that out.
My first day of No Impact Week went. . . alright. I definitely had highs and lows, but I think overall for my first day I did pretty well. Although I spent the majority of the day in a lit classroom, my bio lab took place at the Bio Reserve, so that was 3 hours outdoors instead of inside.
