Today I really wanted to go back to the strictness I had at the beginning of the week. I tried my best to eat locally and I honestly had great meals and I felt very full after them. I am really glad that I was able to participate in this project because I feel like it has given me a knew outlook on being an environmentalist.
Almost finished the five days of no impact week, I am gonna miss the sunshine that I enjoyed in these few days and it has been quite happy to think about that I have contributed to little energy consumption in these days. To give a conclusion of what I have achieved in these few days, I certainly achieved most of my goals in these days like no video games, take shower less 3 minutes and stay in lit room less than 2 hours.
Many customs required time and insistence to change. For example, I used to open light for the whole day. Only today I thought of something, I turned off the light in the day. In order to achieve no impact, what I should do is not only to reduce energy or save resources but have the sense to change many basic behavior.
It’s the last day of No Impact Week and I have done pretty well even though I have to blog earlier. this morning I woke up and turned off the power strips that I used during the night to charge my phone for the day and kept my lights off. My roommates are starting to get on the same page with me on turning the lights off when we don’t need them.
I have a pretty good day with no exams and paper deadline today, especially fulfil all the goals that I made. I only take shower for 3 minutes and have all my meals in Curtis and Huffman. One more day of no video game, which is a real torture for me. Because of no impact day, I have more spare time to walk around campus and enjoy the beautiful scene in east quad and down the hill.
Today I was much less conscious of my waste when it came to meals. I received another package in the mail, so my garbage bag is very disappointing. I also have realized that there are many things that are just 100% waste. An example is Q-tips. There is nothing that can be reused, saved, or recycled on a Q-tip.
Day 4 has not been that bad since it been such a nice day. This morning I had an apple and put it in my compost bag that I am going to give to Dr. Aguilar at the end of the week. I have been spending my time outside most of the day so I have not wasted any energy using lights.
Luckily, I fulfil all the goals that I made last week. I haven’t eaten at the slaytor and I have finished all the meal that I get in the Curtis dining hall. The only thing that I didn’t do well might be the phone charging. In the early morning when I get up, I put my phone on charge in the dorm and expect that I will come back at noon and unplug it but I forget.
Day three was definitely better than day 2. I restrained from eating from Slayter because usually go there for my meals. I wanted to avoid waste today so I chose to eat at Huffman which worked out really well due to the surplus of options. I have been trying to eat local foods as well as eliminate waste so Huffman is always the better option.
Today was probably the worst day I have had so far this week as far as no impact goes. I started the day and took a pretty lengthy shower while I was still half asleep. I did not realize I had left my fan on all night since it was an oven in my room. My roommate does not like to open the window because he thinks that is how all the stink bugs in our room.
