Dr. Valerie Barr, Professor of Computer Science and Director of Interdisciplinary Programs at Union College will be our inaugural speaker for the 2012-2013 FaST Talk season.
Dr. Barr will be on campus, Wednesday September 19 to present “A Tale of Connections, Collaborations, and Bribery: Bringing People to Computing”. This is a story of a multi-pronged effort to change exposure to computing at Union College. Changes to the computer science curriculum have lead to students from over 20 majors taking the introductory course. Meanwhile, faculty from 14 departments (in humanities, social sciences, sciences, and engineering) have incorporated a computational element into over two dozen courses. As a result, about 1/4 of the student body is exposed to computing each academic year.
This talk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Olin 114. Refreshments will be served at 4:15 p.m.
