At Denison University, we believe that education should be accessible to all students, regardless of their financial circumstances. That’s why we’re excited to announce our Midwest Initiative, designed specifically for incoming first-year and transfer students from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia. The Midwest Scholarship offers $25,000 per year for each of a student’s four years at Denison.
Who is eligible?
The Midwest Scholarship is open to admitted students who either reside in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, or West Virginia, or graduate from a high school in one of those states and submit an application by December 1. The application process is refreshingly straightforward: there’s no separate scholarship application, no application fee, and no supplemental essay required.
I have interested students, what’s my next step?
While the application process is streamlined, we strongly encourage prospective students to visit Denison’s campus and take part in an interview. This not only allows you to experience our vibrant community first-hand but also provides a chance to ask questions, connect with faculty, and discover what makes Denison a special place to learn and grow. While interviewing is not a requirement for the Midwest Scholarship or for admission to Denison, the majority of successful admission candidates complete an interview.
Additional considerations:
It’s important to note that students who participate in other programs that support tuition—such as tuition remission, ROTC, QuestBridge, and recipients of other full-tuition scholarships—are not eligible for the Midwest Scholarship. However, students who qualify for multiple Denison-funded scholarships will receive the one with the highest value.
Denison is committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students. If a student’s financial need isn’t fully met after accounting for the Midwest Scholarship, additional financial aid will be awarded to meet their full need.
A Commitment to Community
At Denison, we recognize the broadly diverse backgrounds and unique experiences that students from the Midwest bring to our campus. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where all students can thrive. The Midwest Initiative is just one way we aim to support students in pursuing their academic and personal goals.
Is this different from the Ohio Initiative?
In short, no! You may be familiar with our Ohio Initiative, which was launched in 2021. The Midwest Initiative is identical to the Ohio Initiative in every way; our goal is to make the Denison community accessible to more students in our region and reduce some of the financial burden associated with the cost of education.
Final Thoughts
The Midwest Initiative represents an incredible opportunity to join the Denison community while receiving meaningful financial support. We encourage your interested students to submit your application by December 1 and consider visiting campus to learn more about what Denison has to offer.
