Teaching: Helping Students Study

As we start the sixth week of the semester, we are in the thick of it. You’ve probably already had at least one major grade or are about to, and you are finding which students have figured out how to study and which have not. Our friend Stephen Chew (a cognitive psychologist who visited Denison under Frank Hassebrock) has some excellent resources that will help you help those students. His recent post, `Teaching Students How to Study,’ gives a great overview of where to start. Be careful; you may overlook some of the hidden gems linked there, like a series of short video modules on How to study or a Lesson Plan: Improving Study Skills through Psychological Science. Mark your calendar for a Teaching Matters on Thursday March 7th from 9-9:50am in the CfLT to go deeper into How Learning Works.
