From the very beginning of my college search, there was one important box that my future college needed to check. The opportunity to study abroad had remained unchecked throughout most of my college visits. Since I was also planning to compete in women’s lacrosse, many schools did not offer me the chance to study abroad because I was an athlete.

The elements I enjoyed the most in my study abroad program were all the pre-planned trips and cohort activities that took us to various parts of the country. My cohort was able to experience the culture, people, and landscape of Bhutan, as well as learn from experts who implement critical environmental initiatives and lead important research.
One of the coolest parts of my semester abroad in Peru was getting the chance to spend three days in the Amazon rainforest.
Rocky cliffs, narrow roads, towering mountains, rushing rivers, dense forests, and intricate buildings. These were what greeted me after arriving in Bhutan late January. Moments before, I had stepped off of my flight from Bangkok to Bhutan.
I spent a lot of time trying to picture what my semester in Peru would actually look like. I knew I would be living in Cusco, taking classes in Spanish, and doing independent research. Beyond that, though, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Looking back, there were plenty of things that surprised me that I would love to share with you…
During the spring semester of my junior year, I studied abroad in Limerick, Ireland through an Acadia Abroad program. I spent four and a half months in Ireland and loved every second of it! I was attending a university that was almost 7 times larger than Denison: The University of Limerick (+18,000 students). For the first time in my college career, I had classes that were part lecture and part tutorial; many of my courses were held in a lecture hall with over 100 students.
