A new tool to ensure secure assessments in CanvasDenison has a new Canvas tool that will enable students to type their assessments on their own computer without access to electronic sources, websites, or AI: LockDown Browser. Instructors can create a LockDown assessment within Canvas quizzes, choosing whether students will have no access to websites or whether they have access to specific websites. The assessment stays in Canvas and is ready for instructor grading, no handwriting deciphering required! Instructors do need to give students a “practice” quiz first so that they can install LockDown browser on the same machine they will use for the in-class assessment. Are your students having difficulty using LockDown Browser on their personal computers? Many of the most common challenges we’re seeing are due to device-specific issues. Be sure to reference our MyDenison page for additional guidance to common issues. Alternatively, bypass device-specific issues by using LockDown Browser on lab computers. The software is now available on computers in the following spaces:
Simply have students log in to Canvas on the lab computers and follow the same steps as normal to launch a LockDown Browser quiz. Additional LockDown Browser guidance is available in the LockDown Browser module in the Tech Toolkit. You can also submit an ITS Help Ticket or reach out to ets@denison.edu if you have questions. |
