First Adventures in Dublin, Ireland – Addison Weissert ’28

Hi! My name is Addison Weissert and I am a junior who is currently studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland! I am attending the historic Trinity University while studying psychology, history, and philosophy. My time in Dublin has been amazing so far — I’ve gotten to do so much during these four short weeks that I never would have dreamed of before. As I have been documenting my adventures, I’ve collected some photos that I wanted to share with you all!

This photo is from my first weekend in Ireland, when my roommates and I traveled to the east coast of Dublin for a cold plunge at a 40-foot beach. The water was absolutely freezing, and my lips were blue by the time I got out of the water, but it was worth it.

Later on, my fellow Denisonians and I attended a Bohemian’s soccer match and sat right behind the goal. It was a tense game that came down to the wire with a goal scored in the 89th minute to secure a win for the Bohemians!

Though I’ve never been super into sports, this was one of the most exciting moments from my trip. In fact, if you look closely you can see the five of us sitting behind the goal!

We followed the soccer game up with a hike on the Irish coast alongside the Cliffs of Howth. The scenery was beyond beautiful and, while it tested my fear of heights, the spectacular views made up for it all.

After Howth, we visited Northern Ireland to see the world-famous Giant’s Causeway: a nature-preserve of 40,000 connected columns of volcanic rock.

In recent adventures, this past weekend I saw A Moon for the Misbegotten at the world-renowned Gaiety Theatre. The actors were phenomenal, and the venue was incredible!

Though it’s just begun, my study abroad experience has challenged and excited me in ways that I couldn’t have imagined just one month ago. I have had the incredible opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and push myself to try the things that I have put off doing. I am so grateful for this experience of learning and growth — and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
