Looking for a low-cost way to engage your faculty with the challenge of novice learning and the expert blind spot? Recently, Furman University and Denison University teamed up to conduct the Rubik’s Cube Challenge: An Expert Blindspot Learning Adventure. This quick video and piece in the Wall Street Journal, How to teach Professors Humility? Hand them a Rubik’s Cube, explain the challenge. Each participant was given a cube late last year as well as access to an online learning management platform to provide weekly videos and text tutorials, pedagogical resources and papers, and a discussion board where participants both cheered each other on after mastering a particularly tricky step and reflected on how the experience informs teaching practice.
