Meet Our New MLO Student Consultants

The Center for Global programs is excited to introduce three new student consultants joining the Multilingual Learning Office (MLO). These students bring a range of academic interests, cultural perspectives, and personal experiences that make them thoughtful, approachable, and highly supportive resources for our campus community!

What is the MLO?

The Multilingual Learning Office (MLO) is a space dedicated to supporting students who are developing their academic English skills. Whether you are multilingual, an international student, or simply looking to strengthen your writing and communication, the MLO offers personalized support through one-on-one consultations. In other words, the MLO helps you focus on how to use language to communicate effectively.

Consultants work with students on writing assignments, language development, and overall communication skills. More than just editing papers, they aim to build confidence, encourage growth, and create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. You can find the MLO located in the library atrium room A02.

Next academic year, we’re thrilled to have Linh, Clarissa, and Quyen join the team.

Linh Le

Linh Le is a junior majoring in Communication and Psychology. She currently serves as a Spanish Teaching Assistant and as a Community Advisor in Shorney Hall.
As an international student from Vietnam, Linh understands how challenging it can be to adjust to a new academic and cultural environment. Her own experiences navigating language barriers and communication challenges inspired her to become an MLO consultant.

Linh hopes to be both a helpful resource and a friendly presence for students. She focuses on creating a space where students feel comfortable, heard, and confident in their abilities. Her approach centers on listening first and helping students build trust in themselves and their skills.

Linh enjoys matcha lattes and cheetos as a study snack and she encourages students to come get to know her! She is especially excited to meet new people, learn about different cultures, and support students as they adapt and grow.

Clarissa Paiz

Clarissa Paiz is a junior from Guatemala City majoring in Sustainability and Environmental Studies with a minor in Economics. She is actively involved in campus organizations including Bridges International, Global Fellows, and the Denison Community Service Association.

Through her work as a Spanish TA and her own experience learning new languages, Clarissa knows that improving writing and communication takes time, patience, and support. She became an MLO consultant to share the strategies and tools that helped her grow.

Clarissa is passionate about encouraging students who may feel discouraged. She wants every student she works with to walk away knowing they are capable, and that asking for help is a strong and important step forward.

Her favorite snacks include pretzels, popcorn, or anything that is spicy and/or salty and she enjoys listening to Taylor Swift. Clarissa believes that listening to music is a great way to learn language!

In the MLO, she plans to strive to create a welcoming, non-intimidating environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks in their learning.

Quyen Nguyen

Quyen Nguyen is a sophomore from Hanoi, Vietnam, majoring in Psychology and Creative Writing with a minor in Data Analytics. They are involved across campus as the President of the Mindfulness Club, a Civil Rights and Title IX Ambassador, and a member of the Outdoors Club.

Quyen brings prior experience teaching English and a deep interest in writing and communication. They hope to pursue a PhD in the future and see their work with the MLO as an opportunity to strengthen their teaching skills, while supporting others.

For Quyen, writing is more than an academic task. It is a powerful tool for expression. Having once struggled with verbal communication in English, they found confidence through writing and now hopes to help others do the same.

You will never find them without a tasty drink to sip on while they are studying and they enjoy trying a new drink every week! Quyen enjoys all forms of media and says they loves to speak with others about movies, books, music, and anime. With the MLO, Quyen encourages students to see writing as something approachable and meaningful, and they are excited to learn from the students that they will work with.
