Interning Abroad: Max Bishop’s AJY Adventure in Heidelberg

Max Bishop ‘26 is a Junior double-majoring in German and History and double-minoring in communication and music performance at Denison University. Max studied abroad in Heidelberg, Germany, last fall through the American Junior Year at Heidelberg (AJY) program.

While there, Max worked on two research projects. The first was a small writing piece about Karl Heinrich, a book by Wilhelm Meyer-Förster, which then became a play called Old Heidelberg, an operetta called The Student Prince, and a film of the same name.

My Gilman Scholarship Experience

In the fall of 2021 I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Gilman Scholarship. I was set to depart to Copenhagen, Denmark that January, so I was beyond ecstatic that the Gilman scholarship could help ease some of my financial burdens. Unfortunately, Covid-19 was still rampant around the world and the Gilman Scholarship program decided to categorize Denmark as a level 3 country, meaning that Covid was still so prevalent that they did not advise anyone to travel to Denmark.
